Houma native and Xavier University of Louisiana standout junior CeCe Williams gets low for a dig during a match this season.

It feels like just yesterday that Houma native CeCe Williams was a volleyball terror at Vandebilt Catholic High School – a standout player that earned a reputation as being one of the most talented and powerful players in all of Louisiana.

Out of high school and blessed to be playing in the collegiate ranks, guess what? Williams is still doing what local fans remember – smashing volleyballs for kills and serving as one of the top performers on a winning team with championship aspirations.

Just like she did during her decorated career as a Lady Terriers, Williams is thriving at Xavier University of Louisiana, serving as one of the Gold Nuggets' top outside hitters during her junior season.

Williams reminisced about her whole journey this week, touting that time surely flies when you're having fun. She said the past few years have felt like an absolute blur.

NEW ORLEANS, La. (www.xula.edu/athletics) -- Xavier University of Louisiana's Kwame Jackson set a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference men's cross country recordTuesday when he was chosen Runner of the Week for the 14th time in his career.

Jackson, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, and a graduate of Kingwood Park High School, ran four miles in a school-record 21 minutes, 21.7 seconds Saturday at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede in Lake Charles, La. Jackson placed 36th out of 74 runners.

It was Jackson's second XU timing record this season. He set the record for 5,000 meters on Sept. 6.

Jackson broke a tie with former teammate Matt Pieri for most career GCAC awards. Jackson also tied a GCAC record with his fifth weekly award of the season. Jackson also won five awards in 2013, as did Pieri in 2010 and Xavier's Mark Dotson in 2009.

Next race for XU's men and women will be the GCAC Championships at City Park in New Orleans on Oct. 18. The women's 5K race will start at 8 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 8:30. Xavier is the host school and the eight-time defending men's and women's team champion.
