Hattiesburg, MS- William Carey softball improved to 8-0 on the season by knocking off Union University, 11-1 (5) in game one and 5-4 in game two Friday afternoon at Joseph and Nancy Fail Field.
 
 

After spotting the Lady Bulldogs an early first inning run the Carey offense exploded over the course of the next three innings. The Carey offensive scored eleven runs and collected eights hits as they knocked off the Lady Bulldogs in five innings.

 

Jeana Erickson led Carey at the plate going three for three and scored three runs. Jill Wedgeworth and Shelly Berry each collected two hits.

 

Brittany Ladner improved to 4-0 on the season going five innings allowing one run on three hits.

 

In game two the Carey defense hurt themselves early as they committed two errors to allow Union to take a 1-0 lead after the top of the first. Union returned the favor in the bottom half of the first as they committed a costly error which allowed Carey to tie things up 1-1.

 

Carey went up 3-1 with a two run double by Leah Kilpatrick in the third inning. Union answered with a two run single by Amy Chatham in the top of the fourth to once again tie the game. Carey went ahead for good in the fifth with a two run double by Kelli Blue.

 

Brittany Fuller came on in relief of starter Katie McCrary and worked three innings allowing only one run to pickup the win.

 

Jill Wedgeworth and Leah Kilpatrick each collected two hits in the win.

 

Carey hits the road tomorrow as they travel to Montgomery, AL to take on Faulkner University.
