Ridgeland, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (8-8, 1-1) split a double header with the Spring Hill College Lady Badgers on Saturday, 9-3 and 5-6. The games marked the GCAC openers for both teams on the season. Game 1

Belhaven fell behind early as Spring Hill scored 3 runs in the top of the first. The Lady Blazers roared back with 3 runs in the first and 5 runs in the second, thanks in part to Mallory Meadows' two 3-run homeruns in consecutive plate appearances. Meadows finished the game 2-3, 2HR, 6 RBI and 2 runs scored. Other Blazers providing offense were Jor'Dan Orr (2-4, DBL, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored) and Meghan Pursell (1-3, HR).

Sarah Burns (5-4) got the victory for the Lady Blazers in game 1 as she gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings, striking out 8. Salina Cervantes pitched a perfect 7th inning to close out the game.

Game 2

The second game saw a Lady Blazers' 7th inning rally fall 1 run short. They put 2 runs across the plate in the 7th with the tying run standing on 2nd base after Salina Cervantes' 2 run double, scoring Tiffany Ansley and Keresa Steichen. Cervantes finished 2-2 with 2 RBIs in the game.

Other Lady Blazers providing offense were Jessica Eggold (2-5, run scored), Jor'Dan Orr (2-4, RBI, run scored), Mallory Meadows (1-4, double, RBI, run scored), Tiffany Ansley (3-4, RBI, run scored), and Keresa Steichen (2-3, run scored).

Mallory Meadows took the loss in game 2 as she gave up 3 earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Sarah Burns allowed 2 earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of relief, and freshman pitcher Salina Cervantes continued to impress as she once again pitched a perfect 7th inning.

The Lady Blazers will be back in action Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Alexandria, LA, to take on LSU-Alexandria. Game times are set for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
