New Orleans, La.- Loyola’s 15th-ranked women’s basketball team will be going for a school record 26th win this season when the Wolfpack hosts the William Carey Lady Crusaders at 7 p.m. Saturday night at The Den in the GCAC Tournament Semifinals.

The Wolfpack (25-5, 17-1 GCAC) earned a trip to the semifinals with a 66-58 win over the Dillard Lady Blue Devils Thursday night at The Den. Trenese Smith put in a team high 18 points while her twin sister Trenell finished on her heels with 17 points. Kiely Schork finished the game with 15 points, all of which came in the first half.

Trenese Smith, the team’s leading scorer all season, has scored 590 points on the year, a 19.7 point per game average. She now needs only ten points to break the Loyola single season scoring record she set just last season and become the first Loyola woman to score 600 points in one campaign. Trenell Smith is second on the team in scoring with 18 points per game while also leading the team in assists with 4.8 dimes a game. Her 539 points scored so far this season is third all-time, behind her twin sister’s two full seasons. Kiely Schork rounds out the Wolfpack’s leading scorers with 10.5 points per game on 2.7 three balls per game which is 11th in the NAIA. On the Loyola career scoring list, Kiely reigns supreme at 1,808 points scored with Trenese at 3rd and 1,278 career points while Trenell sits in fifth having put in 1,139 points in her Wolfpack career. All three were named All-Conference this season with Trenese picking up her second straight GCAC Player of the Year nod along with head coach DoBee Plaisance earning her second consecutive conference Coach of the Year selection.

The Lady Crusaders (15-10, 10-8 GCAC) advanced to the semifinals at the expense of LSU-Shreveport, avenging their regular season finale loss to the Lady Pilots, 76-71 Thursday night at Carey’s Clinton Gymnasium. Fallon Hartfield picked up her 19th double-double on the year with 22 points and 11 rebounds against the Lady Pilots. Taphne Jackson put in 18 points while Shonte Kennedy contributed 16 points in the win.

For the season, All-GCAC selection Fallon Hartfield averages a double-double for the Lady Crusaders with 16.3 points and 14.1 boards per game. Shonte Kennedy, an All-Conference selection and the conference’s Newcomer of the Year, puts in 14.2 points per game. Kristin Blackledge scores 11.9 points each time out with Taphne Jackson rounding out Carey’s leading scorers with 10.5 points per game.

The Wolfpack swept the season series from the Lady Crusaders, winning 81-56 at The Den on January 10th and taking the game on February 7th at Clinton Gymnasium 74-62.

In the game at The Den, Trenell Smith scored a game high 22 points. Christine Mainguy picked up one of her seven double-doubles on the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Trenese Smith put in 15 points and Kiely Schork tallied 11 to round out the Wolfpack’s leading scorers. Fallon Hartfield had a double-double for the Lady Crusaders with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Shonte Kennedy and Britta Stephens each put in ten points in the game.

Kiely Schork scored a team high 17 points in the win at Clinton Gymnasium while Trenese Smith picked up one of her four double-doubles of the year with 16 points and ten boards. Trenell Smith rounded out the Wolfpack scoring leaders with 15 points. Kristin Blackledge led all scorers with 18 points at Carey. Shonte Kennedy picked up her only double-double on the year in that game with 17 points and ten rebounds. Fallon Hartfield picked up her second double-double of the season against the Wolfpack by scoring 14 and grabbing 15 missed shots.

A Loyola win would also push the Wolfpack’s home win streak against GCAC teams to 26 games. Carey was the last team to beat Loyola in The Den, 71-63 on January 14, 2006. The winner will advance to the GCAC Tournament Championship game Tuesday night. A Wolfpack win means the title game will be in The Den while a Carey victory sends them to their opponent's gym for the finals.
