Ridgeland, Miss., - The Belhaven College Lady Blazers Softball Team (13-8, 1-1) swept away their Elite 8 Tournament opponents today in impressive fashion, with wins of 12-2 (Lyon College), 7-3 (Northwood University), and 6-1 (Saint Ambrose University). Mallory Meadows and Sarah Burns continued to post impressive numbers as Meadows collected 8 RBIs and 3 home runs on the day, and Burns picked up 2 wins and a save as she pitched 11 1/3 innings, allowing only 3 earned runs throughout the day. Mallory Meadows was selected to the Elite 8 All-Tournament Team for her effort.

Game 1; Belhaven College 12 - Lyon College 2 

Sarah Burns (6-4) picked up the win in the first game of the day as she pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 earned runs, striking out 6. Salina Cervantes closed out the game allowing 1 hit in an inning of work.

The Lady Blazers offense started the Tournament off with a bang as they put up 12 runs on 4 home runs. Mallory Meadows was white hot in the game as she went 4-4 with a home runs, 6 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Other Lady Blazers' leaders were Britney Webb (1-3, walk, 3 stolen bases, 2 runs scored), Jessica Eggold (1-2, walk, RBI, run scored), Jor'Dan Orr (2-2, HR, 2 walks, RBI, stolen base, 4 runs scored), Lauren Biediger (1-2, 2 walks, run scored), Meghan Pursell (2-4, double, run scored), Tiffany Ansley (1-4, double, run scored), and Keresa Steichen (2-3, RBI, stolen base).

Game 2; Belhaven College 7 - Northwood University 3

Mallory Meadows (5-3) took the victory in the second game as she pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing 3 earned runs, striking out 3. Sarah Burns earned her 3rd save of the season as she shut down Northwood in the final 1 1/3 inning striking out 2.

Once again, Mallory Meadows paced the Lady Blazers offense as she went 2-3 with 2 home runs. Lady Blazers also producing from the plate were Britney Webb (2-4, double, RBI, run scored), Mika Dove (1-1, 2 RBI), Lauren Biediger (1-2, HR), Tiffany Ansley (1-3, double, run scored).

Game 3; Belhaven College 6 - Saint Ambrose University 1

Sarah Burn (7-4) took the mound once again for game 3 and pitched a gem. Burns pitched 6 innings, striking out 9, and giving up only 1 earned run. Salina Cervantes pitched a perfect 7th inning, striking out 2.

Jor'Dan Orr paced the Lady Blazers' offense in the final game of the day as she went 1-4, with 2 RBIs, and had 2 stolen bases. Other Lady Blazers contributors were Britney Webb (2-2, walk, double, stolen base, run scored), Jessica Eggold (1-3, stolen base, run scored), Lauren Biediger (2-3, double, RBI), Mallory Meadows (1-4, double, run scored), Tiffany Ansley (1-3, double, stolen base, run scored), Keresa Steichen (2-3, 2 stolen bases, run scored), and Christy Pugh (1-1, walk, 2 RBIs, run scored).

The Lady Blazers will be back in action on Monday afternoon as they face #4 Trevecca Nazarene University at Freedom Ridge Park. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
