New Orleans, La. – Loyola University New Orleans sophomore guard Trenese Smith has been named one of 30 finalists for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2008 State Farm Coaches’ All-America Basketball Team for the NAIA.

 

Smith is leading the Wolfpack in scoring this season at 20.2 points per game and is ranked 5^th in the NAIA in scoring per game. She recently became the Wolfpack’s single season scoring record holder when she scored her 600^th point in the GCAC semi-final victory over William Carey University.  Smith sits at 645 points and looks to further her own mark when Loyola opens the NAIA National Tournament on Thursday, March 20 against Westminster College (Utah).  Tip off in the Oman Arena in Jackson, Tennessee is slated for 12:30 p.m.

Smith, the 2007 and 2008 GCAC Player of the Year, joins 30 other finalist across the nation in the running for the final 10 member State Farm Coaches’ All American team.  She was also named NAIA Player of the Week earlier this season.

The 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team for NAIA will be announced at the NAIA Championship Banquet on March 18, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. (CT) in the Jackson Civic Center in Jackson, Tenn. 

Loyola is ranked No. 15 in the latest NAIA national women’s basketball poll.
