The Olympic-bound Venezuelan National Team took an exhibition double header from the University of Mobile softball team by scores of 6-2 and 10-5.

In the opener, Mobile took a 2-0 lead in the first on a 2-out, 2-run hit from Jennifer Gomez. But, the Venezuelans fought back and tied the game in the 4th on a 2-out RBI from Grisel Leon. Four runs over the final 2 innings, capped by a 2-run homer from Mileinis Gratero put the game away for the Venezuelans.

 

Mariangee Bogado picked up the win, going the distance, fanning 7 and scattering 5 hits. She allowed no hits after the 4th. Yaicey Sojo finished 2-for-3 for Mobile and Gomez finished 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.

 

In the finale, Mobile rallied from a 5-0 deficit to force an extra frame, but the Venezuelans put 5 runs on the board in the 8th to pick up the win.

 

Maribel Riera and Yuruby Alicart homered to help build the 5-0 lead after 5.5 innings of action, but Mobile rallied thanks to a 2-run homer from Gomez and a RBI groundout in the 7th from Jineth Pimentel.

 

With 2 outs and a runner on 3rd in the 8th, the Venezuelans sent 7 more batters to the plate to put the game away, with 2-run hits coming from Alicart and Gratero. Marianella Castellanos picked up the win, going 8 innings and striking out 5. Cristina Rodriguez finished 2-for-3 with a RBI and Gomez finished 1-for-4 with the 2-run homer for Mobile.

 

Mobile is 15-3 on the season and hosts 4th-ranked Trevecca Nazarene Thursday for a 5:00 double header.
