Smith, a sophomore guard/forward out of Reserve Christian High School in LaPlace, La., had a record breaking season for the Wolfpack, setting Loyola single-season records in points scored (645) and field goals made (217). She currently averages 20.2 points per game, which led the conference and is fifth in the NAIA. If that scoring average holds throughout the NAIA National Championship Tournament, she will also break the Loyola single season scoring average record.
Smith broke two Loyola single-game records at Dillard on January 17th with 10 three pointers and a program best 39 points. The 10 triples also tied the GCAC record for three pointers in a game.
Earlier this season, Smith tied the single game scoring record on January 5th against Belhaven when she put up 35 points. One week later, she broke the record with 37 points against Spring Hill and followed that up with another record breaking performance with 39 against Dillard on January 17.
Smith currently sits third on the Loyola career scoring list with 1,333 points and is 16 free throws shy of breaking the Loyola career mark. The business management sophomore had been named GCAC Player of the Year two years running.
The #15 Wolfpack open the NAIA National Championship Tournament Thursday against # 18 Westminster College (Utah). Tip time against the Lady Griffins is set for 12:30 p.m. at the Oman Arena in Jackson, Tennessee.
