Kevin Fontenot led off the first inning barrage with a perfectly placed bunt that rolled along the third base foul line for a base hit. He was knocked in by a Brian Mason single. Sam Dodge, pinch running for catcher Stephen Carroll who reached on a walk, scored on a Todd Hubbell groundout to second. Coyote catcher Kyle Hook allowed the next two Wolfpack runs in as two Nick Allaire pitches got past him, which allowed Brian Mason and Josh Borges to score. Mike Kelly knocked in Joe Atiyeh and Taylor Domengeaux with a double to deep left, which also spelled the end of the day for Allaire after only a third of an inning. Mike Kelly stole home for the final Wolfpack run of the inning as Hook tried to throw out James Callahan, who was taking second.
After Joe Atiyeh knocked in Josh Borges in the second to give Loyola an 8-0 advantage, Kansas Wesleyan scored three runs in each the third and fourth innings to cut the Loyola lead to 8-6 heading to the bottom of the fourth.
Borges and Todd Hubbell each had one out singles to start a four run fourth for the Wolfpack. Borges scored on another Kyle Hook passed ball. Mike Kelly hit a sacrifice fly to center to get Hubbell in while a double error play by the Coyotes scored Atiyeh and Domengeaux giving the Wolfpack a 12-6 lead after four.
A Todd Hubbell double to deep left gave the Wolfpack two insurance runs as Brian Mason and Josh Borges each crossed home for the 14-6 final score.
Starting pitcher Miles Colley (2-2) got the win, going three innings and giving up three runs, all earned, on four hits. Colley and reliever Paul Neill each gave up three earned runs on the night. Mike Kelly and James Callahan each got three hits on the night for the Wolfpack (10-20) with Todd Hubbell picking up three RBIs to lead the offense. Josh Borges touched home plate four times.
Giving up seven runs, six earned, on three hits in a third of an inning got Nick Allaire (0-3) the loss. Jeremy New gave up five runs, three earned in 3.2 innings of work while David Lovett let the other two Wolfpack earned runs in. Darrell Grames, Dustin Romero, Mike Pettibone, Ronny Romo and Kyle Hook each got two hits on the night. Grames and Pettibone each knocked in two runs for the Coyotes (9-7) with Grames touching home plate twice himself.
The Wolfpack will be back on the diamond in Segnette Field Friday night when the University of Mobile comes to start a GCAC series. First pitch against the Rams is set for 6 p.m. at Alario.
