Jackson, Miss., The Belhaven College Baseball Team (26-10, 13-8) clinched the 2008 Maloney Trophy on Tuesday with a 16-10 victory over NCAA DIII #23 Millsaps College. Millsaps put together a furious rally late in the game to score 7 in runs in the final 2 innings, but the Blazers maintained their composure to bring home the victory. With the win, the Blazers have won 19 of their last 21 games. Joe Diecidue (6-1) took the victory for the Blazers as he pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing 5 earned runs, and striking out 4. Chris Hartfield took the mound in the 8th to record an out, and Kyle Medley closed out the game for the Blazers in the 9th.

Hits came often for the Blazers' offense as they racked up 22, and scored in every inning but the first and second. Every batter in the lineup registered a hit on the evening, Blazers with multiple hits on the night were Blaise King (3-4, SB, 2 BB, 3 runs scored), Shawn Anderson (3-4, DBL, BB, RBI, run scored), Bryan Bennett (3-6, HR, DBL, 3 RBIs, 4 runs scored), Charlie Edwards (2-4, DBL, 2 BB, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored), Joe Scalzo (3-4, DBL, BB, 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored), Brent Hudson (2-6, 2 RBIs), and Reg Ott (4-6, 2 DBLs, 3 RBIs, run scored).

The Blazers will be back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Cleveland, MS, to take on NCAA DII rival #11 Delta State University. The game is a make-up due to rain earlier in the season. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
