THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over Loyola in the bottom of the first, but couldn't hold on, falling 5-3 to the Wolfpack Wednesday night at Ray E. Didier Field.

Miles Colley (3-2) went the distance for Loyola, tossing eight innings of four-hit ball after the first inning and striking out seven Colonel batters. In all, Colley scattered six hits and three walks through nine innings for the Wolfpack.

Jacob Sullivan falls to 0-2 for Nicholls, giving up two in the seventh when Joshua Borges drove a two-RBI single to left center that plated Brian Mason and Stephen Carroll. In all, Sullivan gave up four hits through two innings of work with one walk and one strike out.

For the Colonels, Walter Jones posted a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 at the plate and scoring a run.

Nicholls threatened in the fourth, loading the bases on an Anthony Wray single and back-to-back walks for Brett Hoeflich and T.J. Menerey, but the runners were left stranded.

Joe Hagerty was the most effective pitcher of the night for the Colonels, shutting down the Wolfpack in the eighth and ninth as he struck out four and did not allow a base runner.

Joseph Attiyeh and Borges each had two hits each for the Wolfpack (11-23).  Borges had two RBI and two runs scored. Loyola had eight hits in the contest.

Loyola returns to action on Friday against Tougaloo in Jackson, Mississippi.  First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
