Shreveport, La. – The LSUS baseball team picked up an easy non-conference win at home Wednesday night, as they shut out the Texas College Steers, 17-0.

LSUS jumped on the scoreboard first with two runs in the bottom half of the first.  Chase Wentz singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch.  A single by Jeff Ledet scored Josh Todd to give the Pilots an early 2-0 lead.

The Pilots struck again with a pair of runs in the third on three consecutive doubles by Todd, Andrew Brouillette and Ledet.

LSUS added a couple more in the fourth on four hits in the inning, including a triple by Wentz and a RBI single by Matt Whitney.

Pilot starter Zac Ray (2-1) exited after four solid innings on the mound, giving up zero runs and just three hits in his second start of the season.

Wentz hit his second homerun in as many games with a solo shot in the fifth, and the Pilots increased their lead to 9-0 after scoring two more runs in the frame.

LSUS plated four more runs in the sixth, as they took a commanding 13-0 lead over the Steers.  The Pilots scored one more in the seventh and three in the eighth to round out the scoring, defeating the visitors from Texas College, 17-0.

Wentz led the Pilots with a career-high four hits in the win, coming up a double short of hitting for the cycle.  Ledet finished the night with a team-high four RBIs with his 3-for-4 performance, including a double.  Whitney also added three hits to the Pilots total.

The Pilots pounded out a season-high 20 hits in the victory, as all 13 players with a plate appearance safely reached base in at least one at-bat.

Five Pilot pitchers combined for the shutout, allowing only four hits on the evening while striking out 11 Steer batters in the contest.

LSUS will re-enter GCAC play on Friday when they travel to Jackson to face the Belhaven College Blazers.
