The Wolfpack's Trenese and Trenell Smith were honored today by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association as first team and third team All-Louisiana honors.
Trenese Smith, a sophomore guard/forward from LaPlace, La., was named All-Louisiana first team. Smith scored a school record 690 points during the 2007-08 campaign. A two time GCAC Player of the Year, she bested the previous mark of 599 that she set in 2006-07. This season, she averaged 19.7 points per game- sixth in the NAIA and made a school record 228 field goals. Smith tied or broke the Loyola single game scoring record three times this season, the last coming at Dillard on January 17 when she scored 39 points. She also broke the Loyola record with 10 three pointers against Dillard. She was tabbed as NAIA All-American second team earlier this season.
Trenell Smith, a sophomore guard/forward from LaPlace, La., was named All Louisiana third team. The team's most consistent shooter, Smith hit 52.2% from the field and 41.7% from above the three point arc on her way to 644 points and an 18.4 point per game scoring average in 2007-08. She was in the top 20 in the NAIA in three statistical categories, 13th in points per game (18.4), 14th in assists per game (4.7) and 19th in three point field goal percentage (41.7%). For the second straight season she was named All-GCAC. She was also named NAIA All-American honorable mention this season.
On the men's side, Wolfpack senior guard Luke Zumo was a second team All-Louisiana selection. Zumo led the Wolfpack men with 522 points on the season, an 18 point per game scoring average. During his career, Zumo hit 247 three pointers- second most in Loyola history. The Catholic High grad scored 1,573 points which is third on the Loyola career scoring list. He tied a GCAC record with 18 made free throws at Dillard on January 17th. Zumo was 13th in the NAIA with 2.9 three pointers per game. He was named All-GCAC for the first time this season after earning preseason All-Conference nods the last two years. A two-time Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Zumo will graduate this May with a degree in psychology.
The teams were voted on by state sports information directors and various media throughout Louisiana.
