Hattiesburg, MS- Six William Carey Lady Crusader softball players have been selected 2008 All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference as voted on by league coaches.
Seniors Devin King, Brittany Ladner, Shelly Berry, and Jill Wedgeworth along with Freshman Jeana Erickson and Bree Neidhardt were selected from the 2008 Lady Crusaders.
King, a pitcher from Denham Springs, LA, finished the season with 8-4 record and 0.95 ERA. In 81 innings of work for the Lady Crusaders, King recorded 40 strikeouts and allowed only 20 runs. This marks the third time King has been named All-GCAC.
Ladner, a pitcher from Gulfport, MS, finished the season with a 12-3 record and 1.36 ERA. Ladner recorded a team high 61 strikeouts on the season and was twice named GCAC pitcher of the week.
Wedgeworth, a third baseman from Petal, hit a team high .371 with 2 home runs, 2 triples, 11 doubles, and 30 RBI. This marks the third time Wedgeworth has been named All-GCAC.
Berry, an outfielder from Petal, hit .359 with 2 home runs, 3 triples, 7 doubles and 25 RBI. This is second time Berry has been named All-GCAC.
Erickson, a shortstop from Biloxi, MS, was also named GCAC Freshman of the Year. Erickson hit .346 and led the team with 5 home runs, 34 RBI, 40 runs scored.
Neidhardt, a second baseman form Gretna, LA, hit .349 with 4 double, 3 triples and 1 homeruns to go along with 15 RBI for the Lady Crusaders.
Carey is currently 35-10 on the season and ranked 13th in the latest NAIA poll. The Lady Crusaders will return to action on May 5th in the 2008 Region XIII Tournament in Orange Beach, AL. Tournament bracket to be announced on Monday.
