New Orleans, La. – Loyola will open the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference baseball tournament Wednesday against the top seed University of Mobile. First pitch at Stan Galle Field on the Spring Hill campus in Mobile is set for Noon.  

Loyola finished the season in sixth place in the GCAC with an 18-31 record and a 10-24 mark in the conference. The trio of Brian Mason, Josh Borges, and Kevin Fontenot lead the Wolfpack offensively. 

Mason, a senior centerfielder from Nyack, NY, is currently hitting .420 with four home runs and 43 RBI this season. He recently broke the Loyola all time career hit record. 

Borges, a senior third baseman from Belle Chasse, is hitting .415 with a Loyola record 13 home runs on the season. He also leads the Wolfpack with 15 doubles and 64 RBI. 

Fontenot, a junior left fielder from Baton Rouge, holds the Loyola single season stolen base record with 43 bags in 46 attempts this season. He has scored a team high 57 runs in 2008.

Mobile finished the 2008 season as the GCAC regular season champion and the top seed in the tournament. The Rams finished the GCAC with a 30-5 record in the league and a 40-12 overall record to date. 

Jared Baria leads the Rams at the plate with a .440 average with six home runs and 43 RBI. 

The six team tournament begins in Mobile on Wednesday with the championship game scheduled for Saturday.
