Orange Beach, AL- Shelly Berry's two run homerun in the top of the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and propelled # 11 William Carey past the Lady Eagles of Faulkner University 5-3 in an elimination game in the 2008 NAIA Region XIII Tournament.
The Carey offense was relentless all afternoon pounding out fourteen hits and it was Jill Wedgeworth that started off everything for the Lady Crusaders belting a solo home run in the first. Carey added to their lead with and RBI single from Berry in the third inning to put the Lady Crusaders up 2-0.
Faulkner evened the game with two runs in the bottom of the third but Carey bounced back in the fourth as Bree Neidhardt ripped a two out RBI double to put Carey back up 3-2. Faulkner rallied with a run in the fifth to tie the game 3-3 and set the stage for Berry dramatics in the seventh.
Devin King picked up the win for the Lady Crusaders to improve to 10-4 on the season.
Carey returns to action at 2:00 pm today as they take on Belhaven College in an elimination game.
