Orange Beach, AL- Jill Wedgeworth went 3 for 4 with a home run, double, and five RBI's as #11 William Carey routed Belhaven College 6-1.
Wedgeworth was outstanding for the Lady Crusaders, belting a three run home run in the first inning to put Carey up 3-0, adding a RBI single in the second inning, and capping off the scoring with an RBI double in the fourth.
The six runs scored by the Lady Crusaders was more than enough run support for starter Brittany Lander. Ladner allowed one run and five hits in a complete game effort as Carey moves into day three of the NAIA Region XIII Tournament.
"King and Ladner were solid for us once again," said Carey Coach Wendy Hogue. "I felt that yesterday we hit the ball well but right at people; today we found the holes and hit from top to bottom. We were able to get runners on base and Wedgeworth and Berry came through in a big way."
Wedgeworth capped off an impressive Day Two going 6 for 8 with 2 home runs, 1 double, and 6 RBI's.
Carey moves on to tomorrow where they will take on #7 Shorter College. Shorter defeated the Lady Crusaders on Day one 2-0. "We are excited about getting another shot at Shorter. It's an elimination game for both teams and with the way we are playing I feel good about our chances, said Coach Hogue
First pitch for the Carey-Shorter game is set for 10:00 am tomorrow in Orange Beach, AL.
