Orange Beach, AL- #11 William Carey University committed five errors which led to seven unearned runs as #7 Shorter College ended the Lady Crusaders hope for a Region XIII title by knocking off the Lady Crusaders 7-3.
"We played well offensively and pitched the ball well but you can not make the mistakes we made and expect to win," said William Carey head coach Wendy Hogue.
Every mistake William Carey made Shorter made sure the Lady Crusaders paid for it. In the third inning the Lady Crusaders committed the first error which allowed Shorter to score two runs to take a 2-0 lead.
Carey bounced back in the fourth as Megan Pittman singled in two runs and Joy Cavenaugh was able to score thanks to a Shorter error to put Carey up 3-2.
The lead was short lived for the Lady Crusaders. An error in the fourth resulted in two Shorter runs while one in the fifth plated yet another.
The final William Carey error came in the sixth off a dropped fly ball with two out's which was followed by a homerun by Shorter's Lindsey McDaniel to put the Lady Hawks up 7-3.
Devin King took the loss for the Lady Crusaders allowing 5 unearned runs in four innings of work.
With William Carey exiting the Region XIII tournament it now awaits the call from the national office on its postseason future. William Carey hopes to receive one of the seven at-large bids into the NAIA Softball National Championship. The Lady Crusaders will know their postseason future on Friday.
