Borges set Loyola single season records in batting average (.430), home runs (13), and RBI (67) this past season. He also led the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in batting average and RBI. He was one of two players to hit 13 home runs in the GCAC- the most of any hitter in the league.
On the national level, Borges was 18th in the NAIA in RBI per game (1.31), 26th slugging percentage (.767), and 39th with .255 home runs per game. Borges had a season best 11 game hitting streak and had seven hits in a game three times in 2008. He also hit two home runs in a game twice this past season. The Wolfpack third baseman was the top hitter in the GCAC Tournament where he hit .750 going 6 for 8 in Loyola's two games in the tourney.
Borges, who prepped at Belle Chasse High School, was the only non NCAA Division I player on the first team. It is believed that this is the first time since the reinstatement of baseball in 1991 that Loyola had a player selected to the All-Louisiana team
The team was selected based on nominations by the baseball sports information directors of the state and then voted on by a panel of LSWA members.
