ROME, Ga. - The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost a 97-72 decision at Shorter College on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Badgers shot a respectable 43% (23-54) from the field along with 50% (11-22) from the 3-point line, but committed 31 turnovers.  Senior guard Sharidan Hollis of Hoover, Ala., scored 15 points while senior forward Keisha Forbes of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., scored 13 and sophomore forward Meagan Duncan of Baton Rouge, La., put in 11 points.  Senior guard Rashonda Belton of Ft. Walton Beach added 10 points and five rebounds.

Trailing 26-54 at halftime, Spring Hill increased their defensive pressure in the second half, but the hole proved too deep to climb out.  "We can't play from behind all the time," said SHC Coach Ray Fron.  "We played much better in the second half, but they just had too many open looks at the basket."

Shorter (2-3) shot an impressive 63% (36-57) from the field, including an amazing 12 of 15 (80%) of their 3-point shots.  Katarina Martinovic from Serbia scored 27 points and was seven of eight from behind the arc.

As the Eagles heated up from the outside, Spring Hill also struggled to find an inside answer to 6'1" forward Nicole Frechette who pulled in nine rebounds and scored 20 points.  Shorter's 6'3" center Megan Queen added more problems, tallying 10 points, 3 blocks and six rebounds.  In the end, the Eagles out-rebounded the Badgers 31-21 for the game.

Spring Hill (1-2) next travels to Pensacola, Fla., on Tuesday, November 25, to play NCAA Division II rival West Florida (1-1) at 6 p.m.
