GULF SHORES, Ala-The 15th-ranked University of Mobile softball team run-ruled Belhaven College 10-0 in five innings in the first game of the 2009 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Leslie Pickette (22-3) got the win for Mobile by tossing a five-hit, complete-game shutout, while fanning three and walking one. Salina Cervantes (16-10) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs on nine hits in two innings.

At the plate, the Lady Rams ripped 12 hits and scored seven runs in the 2nd inning to put the game away. Tess Ackerman finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, and Brittany Dowdle and Kirstyn Joiner both finished 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Holli McLeod and Jineth Pimentel added two hits apiece for Mobile.

Belhaven looked like they were going to start the scoring in the 1st when they put runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out, but Belhaven lined into a double play and Pickette fanned the Lady Blazer's leading run producer Mallory Meadows to get out of trouble.

In the game-changing 2nd inning, Mobile sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs on nine hits to take a 7-0 lead. Pimentel and Ackerman both went 2-for-2 in the inning. Taylor Lee Phillips started the scoring with a RBI-single and Dowdle and Ackerman both added 2-run singles to lead the charge.

Mobile then tacked on three more in the 4th thanks to a trio of Belhaven miscues, and the Lady Blazers loaded the bases in the 5th, but came up empty.

Mobile (32-10) will play Saturday at 12:15 against the Spring Hill/William Carey winner, while Belhaven (34-18) battles the Spring Hill/William Carey loser in an elimination game at 10:00 am Saturday.
