Charleston, West Virginia- No.5 William Carey locked up their second straight trip to the NAIA national tournament as they knocked off the University of Maine- Presque Isle 15-1 & 25-0 in the NAIA Unaffiliated Regional Tournament in Charleston, West Virginia.
The 2009 GCAC champions pounded out 12 hits on their way to a 15-1 victory in five innings in game one. Bree Neidhardt led the way at the plate for Carey going 3 for 4 with a double, triple, three runs scored and four RBI. Kelsey Jo Smith allowed one run and one hit in four inning to pick up her thirteenth win of the season.
If the Lady Crusaders swung a hot bat in game one they were absolutely on fire in game two as trounced the Lady Owls, 25-0. The Lady Crusaders collected 23 hits by 11 different players. Neidhardt wrapped up MVP honors going 4 for 6 with a double, homerun, four runs scored, and 2 RBI. Larke Nightengale collected three hits including aa pair of doubles and drove in six runs. Kellie Blue and GCAC Player of the Year Judy Barber each added three hits. Melanie Bush picked up the win to improve to 15-1 on the season.
This will mark the second straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament by the Lady Crusaders. The 2009 NAIA National Tournament is set for May 14-20. The 32 team tournament field will be announced on Monday May 4.
