Senior Anthony Hingle was the top Bleu Devil finisher with a time of 32:33.28 for 78th place, while senior Jasmyne Fine came in at 30:29.62 to finish 107th for the women's team. The competition fielded 112 men and 115 women for each respective race.
"Overall, it was a great improvement from last week for both teams especially the women," said head coach Bobby Williams. "The women dropped an average of about four minutes from their times on last weekend. We are definitely improving and getting stronger."
Rounding out the top three finishers on both sides were freshman Byron Miles (93rd place, 35:17.84) and sophomore Marcel Williams (99th place, 36:35.66) for the men, and for the Lady Bleu Devils junior Neshara Boyd (109th, 32:55.90) and freshman Ebone' Pierce (110th, 33:02.70). As a team, the men finished 13th out of 13 teams and the women, 16th out of 16.
"The men did a great job tackling a longer course compared to the two previous courses," said Williams. "With consistent practice and harder work I believe we can make some significant strides just in time for the conference meet in November."
The Gulf Coast Stampede is next up on the cross country schedule. The event will be hosted by the University of West Florida next Saturday, October 3, at the Pensacola (FL) Equestrian Center. Race times are 7:30 (women) and 8 a.m. (men).
