New Orleans, LA -The Bleu Devils continued their improvement this weekend at the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede, hosted by the University of West Florida at the Pensacola Equestrian Center.  The men tackled their second eight kilometer course and the women participated in the 5K event.
 

Freshman Ebone Pierce made the most significant improvement, posting a personal best of 28:44, for 94th place and nearly five minutes less than last week's time of 33:02.  Senior Anthony Hingle shaved almost two minutes off his previous best (32:33) with a time of 30:47, for 68th place - ten places better than his last outing. 

"We're getting better and better," said head coach Bobby Williams.  "If we stay on track, we may have one or two runners make it to the NAIA Championships."

Rounding out the top three finishers on both sides were freshman Byron Miles, who bettered his time with a mark of 32:22 (77th place) and junior Sherman Coleman improved by almost four minutes, with a time of 35:01 (85th place) for the Bleu Devils.  For the women, senior Jasmyne Fine dropped two minutes (28:56, 95th) and junior Tiffany Young followed in 96th place, in a time of 29:26.  As a team, the men finished 11th out of 11 teams. The women did not earn a team score. A total of 94 men and 99 women competed in the event. 

On Sunday, October 11, the Bleu Devils will be participating in the UNCF 22nd Annual Walk for Education, where they will compete against Xavier University - La.  The event, which benefits both institutions, will be held at Audubon Park and Zoo Riverview Area.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the run scheduled for 9:00 a.m., and the walk at 9:05 a.m.  For more information, log onto www.uncf.org.
