MOBILE, Ala-- No. 4 William Carey University topped the University of
Mobile 2-1 in NAIA women's soccer action Saturday evening at "The
Jungle."
Both teams had their share of shots, with William Carey taking 18 and Mobile taking 17, but the Lady Crusaders came out on top.
The game was scoreless through the first 42 minutes, but at the 42:19
mark, Aimi Beresford took a free kick from about 19 yards out and went
over the Mobile wall for the 1-0 lead.
Missy Stovall tied it up for Mobile in the 59th minute when she scored
her team-high 15th goal of the season. A clear went the wrong way off
of William Carey, and Stovall just beat the William Carey goal keeper
to the ball and punched it in.
Willliam Carey won it 8 minutes later when Jeana Erickson headed home a
high bounce off a pass from Beresford. Mobile (7-8-1, 2-2) will be the
No. 3 seed in the GCAC Tournament and head to No. 2 seed Belhaven at a
date and time to be announced.
