Baton Rouge, La. - Loyola University New Orleans volleyball player Gina Gill was named 2009 All-Louisiana First Team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Gill, an outside hitter from Baton Rouge, La., earned the honor after leading the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference with 3.9 kills per game, which ranked 21st in the NAIA. She also ranked among the conference leaders in aces (50) and digs (284).

Despite missing five matches due to injury, Gill still made the Loyola record books for a single season, ranking 10th with 444 kills. She eclipsed the 20-kill mark four times this season, including a career-best 25 against Belhaven University on Oct. 20. Gill had double figures in kills in all but three matches this year, with two of the contests being mostly played by Loyola's reserves.

Gill, in her sophomore season, was one of two underclassmen to make first team. Of the 14 total players named to either first or second team, she was the only one not from a NCAA Division-I program.

Along with being named All-Louisiana, she also made All-GCAC for the second time and was recently named to the AVCA All-Mid South Region Team.

Freshman setter Samantha Worsham, who also made All-GCAC, came in third for Freshman of the Year honors with two votes.
