Hattiesburg, MS-The #18 LSU Shreveport Pilots dropped both games of today's double header to the #14 William Carey Crusaders on a blistery cold Saturday at Milton Wheeler Field by final scores of 10-7 and 6-5.

GAME 1

LSU Shreveport scored one run in the top of the first inning as Ricky Sanders reached on an error by the William Carey third baseman that allowed Curtis Beaudoin to score from third to take an early 1-0 lead.

William Carey rallied in the bottom of the second inning and took the lead on a three-run homer from Josh Dannelley after Jason Terrell led off the inning with a solo homerun. William Carey led 4-1 after two innings of play.

Carey got an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning from Jacob Casey that scored Will Dannelley to extend the Crusader's to 5-1 after four.

The Pilots got one run back in the top of the fifth inning to trim the Crusader's lead to 5-2 as Andrew Blubaugh led off with a trip and later scored sacrifice fly from Brandon Bravata.

William Carey answered in the bottom of the fifth inning as Jason Terrell drove in his second run of the game with an RBI triple that allowed Eathan Burt to score from first. The red and black added another run as Shannon Steed hit an RBI single to right field to score Terrell to extend the Crusader lead to 7-2 after five complete innings of play.

The Pilots rallied to tie the game as they got back to back stand up doubles to start the top of the sixth inning from Stephen Hobbins and Kevin Smith as Hobbins scored on Smith's to trim the Crusader's lead to four, 7-3. Chase Wentz got his first RBI of the season driving in Smith from third to cut the William Carey lead to 7-4. With the bases loaded Andrew Brouillette drove 1-0 pitched the right center field wall that scored all three runners to tie the game at 7.

William Carey took the lead back in the bottom of the inning after back to back hit batsmen and two walks forced in three runs as WCU led 10-7 going to the top of the seventh.

The Pilots got a leadoff double from Kevin Smith and then a two out hit by pitch on Chase Wentz brought the tying run to the plate in Andrew Blubaugh with two outs. Blubaugh hit a swinging bunt that was fielded by the William Carey catcher just a foot in front of the plate who then tagged Blubaugh to retire the side and the Pilots in game one of today's doubleheader as the Crusaders took game by a final score of 10-7.

The Pilots used four pitchers in game one as John James got the start and threw three and two thirds innings allowing four runs on six hits, five earned runs, no walks and six strikeouts. Richard Pharr was the first out of the pen for the Pilots as he threw one and a third of an inning as he surrendered three hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out one batter. Jason Mouton tossed a third of an inning and allowed two hits, two earned runs and one walk. Trevor Stennett was the final pitcher of the afternoon as he recorded two outs and allowed one earned run, walked two, struck out two and hit two.

The Crusaders sent three different pitchers to the mound today as Tyler McMullen started and pitched five and a third innings and allowed six hits, four earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Matt Carter threw a third of an inning allowing one hit, two earned runs and two walks. Scotty Reese allowed just one hit and two strike outs in an inning and a third.

Scotty Reese (1-0) got the win for the Crusaders as Jason Mouton (0-1) suffered the loss for the Pilots.

Andrew Brouillette was one for four with 3 RBI's with his game-tying double in the top of the sixth inning. Stephen Hobbins was two for four at the plate while Kevin Smith was two out of three with an RBI. Chase Wentz was one out of three with an RBI.

Jacob Casey was three of four for the Crusaders while Jason Terrell was two out of four with two RBI's. Shannon Steed was one for three and two RBI's as Will Dannelley went two for two with an RBI. Josh Dannelley drove in three runs as he was one for two.

The Pilots left seven runners stranded while William Carey stranded eight.

GAME 2

The Pilots failed to score in the first inning but got a spark from Chase Wentz as he hit his first homerun of the year over the center field wall to give the Pilots a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

The Pilots scratched another run in the top of the third inning as Brandon Bravata scored on a groundout as Kevin Smith was credited with an RBI and extended the Pilot's lead to 2-0.

LSU Shreveport scored another run in the top of the fourth inning as Andrew Blubaugh scored on a sacrifice fly from David Morgan to increase the Pilot's advantage to 3-0 after three and a half innings.

The Crusaders rallied and tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as they scored three runs on three hits. Jason Terrell led off the inning with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Will Dannelley. Shannon Steed walked and later scored on a fielder's choice by Josh Dannelley. Jordan Prout drove in Dannelley with an RBI double but was retired after the Pilots caught him in a run down to end the inning with the game tied at three.

William Carey took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as DH Garrett Braley drove in Dustin Smith on an RBI single to put the Crusaders in front.

The Pilots loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with only one out but were unable to score as William Carey still led 4-3 at the seventh inning stretch.

The Crusaders scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Ethan Burt scored on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Braley to give the red and black a two run lead, 5-3 heading to the ninth.

David Bradley reached on an error by the William Carey second baseman to lead off the ninth inning. Brandon Bravata followed with a single to right field. Curtis Beaudoin was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. David Bradley scored on a wild pitch to trim the Crusader lead to one. Bravata scored after an RBI ground out by Kevin Smith to tie the game at five heading to the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Crusaders won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off RBI single from Josh Dannelley that scored Shannon Steed from third.

Andrew Brouillette was three for four from plate while Chase Wentz was two out of four.

Jason Terrell was three for four for William Carey as Josh Dannelley was one for four with two RBI's.

The Pilots used four pitchers as Jeff Nadeau got the start and threw four and a third of an inning allowing six hits, four earned runs, three walks and two strike outs. Turner Brasher threw two innings and allowed three hits, one earned run, three walks and three strikeouts. Ben Suit tossed an inning and struck out one batter while Corey Theriot finished the game throwing an inning and a third allowing one hit and one run while striking out four batters.

Zach Magee started for the Crusaders and pitched six and a third of an inning and allowed eight hits, three earned runs, three walks and struck out five. Wil Mann pitched an inning and two thirds of one hit ball and allowed one earned run while striking out five Pilots hitters. Scotty Reese threw an inning and allowed no hits and one strike out.

Scotty Reese got the win for William Carey (2-0) while Corey Theriot (0-2) suffered the loss for the Pilots.

The next series for the Pilots will be the home opener against the Belhaven College Blazers. Game one of the series will begin on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday's double header will begin at 1:00 p.m.
