NEW ORLEANS -   The Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball team dropped a home regular season GCAC contest for the first time in 35 games with a 70-51 defeat to LSU-Shreveport on Monday night in The Den.

The Pilots never trailed in the game as Sharday Cotton converted a bucket and free throw to open the scoring two minutes in. Cotton extended the margin to five points a minute and a half later on a fast break bucket to make the score 7-2.

Loyola rallied to tie the score twice in the first half with Keiva Council hitting her lone three pointer of the night at the 11:19 mark to knot the score at 16-16. After a bucket by Callie Davis of LSUS, Council again equaled the tally with a jumper in the paint. Davis answered for the Pilots with a three pointer to put the visitors up for good with 8:56 remaining in the half.

The Pilots extended the lead with a 14-5 run to close out the final 9:13 of the half to grab a nine point 32-23 lead.

In the second half, Shreveport scored on their first two possessions with baskets by Cotton and TiKandia Edwards to extend the margin to 13 points. Loyola converted the next four points with Trenese Smith scoring for the first time in the contest at the 18:27 mark and again with 17:39 to play to cut the lead to nine points, 36-27.

The Wolfpack would get no closer the rest of the way as the Pilots went on an 18-3 run over the next seven minutes to take command of the game.

LSUS enjoyed their largest lead of the game 63-37 with 5:12 to play on a lay-in by Tish Flowers before securing the 70-51 victory.

LSUS (16-4, 9-3 GCAC) had two players with double doubles. TiKandis Edwards had games highs with 18 points and 19 rebounds. Sharday Cotton was not outdone with 11 points and 11 boards. Val Huizar and Callie Davis each scored 12 points to round out the leaders.
