New Orleans, La. - Lionel Green's final regular season game in The Castle was a good one for him and SUNO fans. The senior guard showed exactly why he was a pre-season all-GCAC selection in a commanding 32-point, 9-rebound, 7-assist, 2-block performance on Senior Night for Southern University at New Orleans. Green even punctuated the night with two spectacular dunks in the 99-81 win.
The Knights (11-13, 6-10) started fast against the Crusaders, going up 22-11 within the first 12 minutes of the game. Having led 47-29 at one point in the first half, SUNO ended the first 20 minutes with a 47-37 lead. Out of the gates in the second half, the Knights expanded their lead to as many as 22 points and never looked back.
Green led in scoring and rebounds. Andre Davis gave SUNO 15 points and 7 rebounds. Both Ricardo Porter and Jared Drake had 14 points, each. Brent Leduff led in steals with 5 and assists with 8.
The Crusaders were led by Brandon Cooks who had 19 points, and Cory Smith with 7 rebounds. Marcus Spann had 17 points, Smith gave 16 points and Drew Meyerchick had 11. Spann led in assists with 6.
SUNO will take on Xavier on Thursday the 25th in The Barn.
