Shreveport, LA- The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots women's basketball team (23-5) advanced to the finals of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament after eliminating Loyola University (19-11) Friday night at the Dock by a final score of 75-62.

The Lady Pilots shot 43% from the field for the game while Loyola shot 36%. LSU Shreveport garnished the lead in the first half and was able to get it double digits half way through the first half after a three-pointer by Whitney Hollins with 10:45 to go in the half.

The Lady Pilots kept a double-digit lead for most of the half but could not pull away from the Pack. The Lady Pilots lead was at single-digits until Valerie Huizar made a pair of free-throws to get the lead to 11 with 20 seconds to go.

The largest lead of the night for the Lady Pilots was 16 points which occurred on four different times throughout the game.

The Lady Pilots had five different scorers with double digits: TiKandis Edwarsds (15), Valerie Huizar (15), Sharday Cotton (10), Tish Flowers (10), and Renalda Stafford (10).

Edwards finished the game with 6 rebounds and was seven of 13 from the field and one for one from the free-throw line. She had two blocks and three steals in 28 minutes of action.

Huizar's six assists in 32 minutes of play led the team. She was four of eight from the field which included three of five from long range and another perfect night from the charity stripe, four for four.

Cotton got her 8th double-double of the season with 16 rebounds to go along with her 10 points. Cotton clinched her double-double with eight seconds to go in the game as she went to the line needing to make both free-throws and she did. She also had one steal in 32 minutes.

Flowers made two of five from the field and went six for 10 from the line with 4 assists in 36 minutes.

Stafford shot 50% from the field, making four out of eight, which included two for four from the three-point line in just 13 minutes of play.

Callie Davis played 20 minutes and had some big baskets down the stretch that slowed down the Loyola's attempt at a comeback. She finished the game with seven points which included two of five from the field and three of six from the free-throw line. Davis also had a total of four rebounds.

Tynekqua Warren had five points going one of two from beyond the arc in 12 minutes while Whitney Hollins was one of three from the three-point line in 22 minutes of action.

The Lady Pilots advance to the finals in the GCAC Tournament on Saturday night as they travel to New Orleans to take on the #1 seed, Xavier University at 7:00 p.m. Xavier defeated Tougaloo tonight in the other semi final game 71-54.

With the Lady Pilots advancing to the championship game against the #1 seed, they have clinched their birth in the National Tournament in Jackson, Tennessee for the second straight year. The tournament begins on March 17th and will go through March 23rd.
