Jackson, MS-The Tougaloo College Baseball team continued play on yesterday as they traveled across town to play Division I SWAC Jackson State University in a doubleheader. With rain in the forecast, it would be difficult to play two games, but the Tigers did defeat the Bulldogs 5-0 in the first game.
With Matthew Scott on the mound, the Bulldogs were very confident that it would be a good game with the Tigers. Scott got his first win of the season last week when he led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory over Division I SWAC Mississippi Valley State University. Scott would have a good first inning, but the Tigers would catch some good pitches from Scott and find some holes to put some players on base. With one player on base and two strikes, JSU's Frank Solis would hit a homerun to bring in 2 runs for JSU, making the score 2-0. In the third inning, JSU would get two players on base and Cortez Cole would hit another homerun for JSU to bring in 3 runs and put JSU up 5-0.
After the third inning, the Bulldogs would shut the Tigers' offense down, but they would not do anything offensively either and as a result, the Tigers would walk away with the victory. The Bulldogs had hoped to seek revenge on the Tigers in the second game, but after a 30-minute wait, the game was called due to the rain. The game will be rescheduled for another day. Leading the Bulldogs with its lone hit was Lanford Porter. Scott got the lost with 5 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. The Bulldogs will be back in action on this weekend as they play host to conference rival and cross town rival Belhaven University. Game time for Friday's game is set for 1:00 P.M. and Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 noon at the Coleman Athletic Complex.
