Shreveport, La. - The No. 18 LSU-Shreveport Pilots used three big
innings to defeat the Loyola University New Orleans Wolfpack 19-7 in
seven innings in GCAC action on Friday night at Pilot Field.
Loyola (7-11, 5-11 GCAC) scored a pair of runs in the first, but the Pilots put up a six spot in the second to take the lead. The Wolfpack cut the deficit to 8-6 with three runs in the fifth, but LSUS answered again in their half with six runs, then put the game away with five runs in the sixth.
The Wolfpack were led by Brooks McMinn with three hits and David McChesney had two hits and three RBI. Ryan Scott finished with two RBI and a hit, while Caleb Templet hit his first home run of the season in the fourth.
Mike Kelly (1-2) picked up the loss going four innings, giving up 10 earned on nine hits.
LSU-Shreveport (15-6, 8-5 GCAC) was led by Andrew Brouilette who 4 for 4 with five RBI, including a three-run home run. Andrew Blubaugh finished with two hits and three RBI.
Justin Ennis improved to 4-0 on the season after pitching four innings, giving up six runs on four hits.
In the game, Loyola got on the board first when McChesney brought home Taylor Domengeaux, who had three runs and walked three times, to make the score 1-0 in the first. Scott then brought in McMinn on a sac fly.
The Piolts took the lead in the third on a passed ball at 3-2, then Bouilette hit a three-run shot down the right field line to put LSUS up four.
With the score 8-3 in fifth, Loyola plated three runs after loading the bases. McChesney brought in the first after he was hit by a pitch. The Wolfpack got their last two off a single by Scott and a groundout by Tyler Duplantis.
In the bottom of the fifth, LSUS scored all six runs with two outs. The Pilots scored five more in the sixth as they went on to win 19-7 via the run rule.
Loyola wraps up the series with LSU-Shreveport on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 P.M.
