MOBILE, Ala. - The Spring Hill College Badgers and the University of Mobile Rams split a Saturday doubleheader at Stan Galle Field as Mobile took the first game 5-1 and the Badgers rebounded in the nightcap to win 10-0 in an eight inning "Mercy Rule" decision.

In the first game, the Rams' Michael Clay (3-2) went the distance and allowed just three hits in seven innings, with three walks and three strikeouts.  Badger shortstop Ryan Cummings touched Clay for a solo homer to lead off the final frame, but otherwise the Mobile hurler continually frustrated the Spring Hillians into hitting ground-balls and pop outs.

Joe Baumgartner (0-3) took the complete-game loss for SHC with seven hits, four walks and a strikeout.

Mobile (10-15, 4-10 GCAC) scored twice in the 1st and 2nd innings to put the Badgers in an early 4-0 hole. Travis Williamson collected the first two RBIs with a single to right-center and then Mobile scored twice on two successful 1st and 3rd double steals in the 2nd inning.  In the 5th inning, Derek Bourgeois laid down a beautiful sacrifice squeeze bunt to add a fifth run for UM.

The second game saw SHC score first with a 1st inning solo shot by first baseman Brad Holstein for his sixth dinger of the season. The Badgers then poured on a 5-run 5th inning capped by Andy McCall's 2-out bases-loaded double to deep left that cleared the bases.

Cummings ended the game with one out in the 8th inning by delivering a solid single to left that plated Kendell Carvin and Ryan Hall with the decisive 9th and 10th runs.

Cummings finished the second game with three hits and three RBIs while Hall and catcher Fred Rossi both added two hits to the Badgers' 13 total hits.

SHC starter Nick Clapper (1-1) enjoyed his best outing of the year so far by going eight innings with one hit, two walks and three strikeouts.  Stephen Herrington closed things out with two strikeouts in a strong one inning performance.

For Mobile, Alan Butts fell to 2-2 on the year lasting 4.2 innings with five hits, three walks and one strikeout. Catcher Nick Laico broke up Clapper's no-hit bid in the 3rd inning with a single to right.

The win also marked SHC Head Coach Frank Sims' 700th career victory.

Spring Hill (15-9, 10-5 GCAC) will play Oklahoma Wesleyan in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Stan Galle Field.
