Shreveport, La. - Junior Taylor Domengeaux threw a complete game to lead the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team to an 11-3 win over the No. 18 LSU-Shreveport Pilots to split the Saturday double-header at Pilot Field. Loyola dropped the first game game 9-8.

In the second game, after giving up three runs in the first two innings, Taylor Domengeaux settled down and put together an outstanding performance on the mound, giving up only four hits the rest of the way as he pitched a complete game for the win. On offense, Loyola (8-12, 6-12 GCAC) scored six runs in the fourth and never looked back as they avoided the sweep.

Domengeaux (2-0) finished the game with eight strikeouts, which included punching out the heart of the Pilots order in eighth. He scattered nine hits through nine innings while giving up three runs.

On offense, Ryan Scott led the ‘Pack with three hits and four RBI. Kevin Fontenot finished with three hits and three RBI. Fontenot also set Loyola's career stolen base record at 70 with a steal in the seventh.

Loyola trailed 3-1 early, scoring a run in the second as Caleb Templet extended his hitting streak to eight games with his second home run of the weekend.

In the fourth, Fontenot tied the game up with a two-run single up the middle. After David McChesney drew a bases loaded walk to put Loyola up one, Scott hit a double to right to clear the bases.

Loyola added an insurance run in the fifth on a single by Fontenot, then got three more in the last two innings. Tyler Duplantis and Lucas Wendt each brought in a run in the eighth, then Scott finished off the scoring in the ninth with a single to right.

Jared Mata (3-2) took the loss going three plus innings, giving up five runs on five hits.

Andrew Brouilette led the Pilots (16-7, 9-6 GCAC) with three hits and an RBI, while Brandon Bravata and Curtis Beaudoin finished with two hits each.

In the first game, Loyola used timely hitting to take advantage of five Pilot errors to take an 8-3 lead through five innings. Starter George Smith held LSUS to just three runs on three hits, but the Wolfpack bullpen could not hang on as the Pilots scored six in the sixth to take the game 9-8

The Loyola pitching had control issues in the sixth, putting six Pilots on base with two walks and four hit by pitches. LSU-Shreveport scored their first three runs without a hit, then with the bases loaded, Chase Wentz gave the Pilots the lead for good with a three-run triple.

Domegeaux led the Wolfpack offense with two hits and three RBI, and Templet added two RBI.

Joey Pajares (0-2) took the loss in relief, giving up three runs in 0.1 innings.

Along with Wentz, the Pilots were led by Bravata with two RBI and a home run, his second of the series.

Richard Pharr (1-0) picked up the win, going one plus innings, giving up a run on four hits.

LSUS started off the scoring in the second with an RBI triple by Kevin Smith. Shawn Moy drew a walk on the previous at bat after a missed played foul ball kept his at-bat alive. Bravata then made the score 2-0 with his home run in the third.

In the fourth, the Pilots spotted Loyola three runners on three consecutive errors, then Domengeaux evened up the game with a 2-run single.

With the game tied in the fifth, Scott put Loyola up with a sac fly. Templet then hit a 2-run double to make the score 5-2. Domengeaux, Chris May, and Steve Daigle capped the six-run inning off with RBI singles.

LSUS scored a run in their half to make the score 8-3 on a single by Brouillette. The Pilots loaded the bases on a walk, but Smith fanned Wentz to get out of the jam. Wentz, however, bounced back in the sixth with the game winning hit.

Loyola returns to Segnette Field on Tuesday for a double-header against Faulkner University.  The first game is scheduled to start at 2 P.M.
