ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - The Spring Hill College softball team split a pair of games at the second day of the Gulf Coast Invitational on Saturday by winning the morning game over Bethel University (Tenn.) 6-3 and falling 6-4 to McKendree University in the afternoon.
 

In the first game, the Badgers pounded out 11 hits led by Brooke Turlich who was 3-for-4.  Monica Zeringue, Samantha Brooks and Haley Brown each recorded two hits.

On the rubber, Brooks (3-5) was the winner and allowed eight hits with two walks.

In the second game, the Badgers were down 6-0 headed into the 6th inning, but put on their rally caps following a Lindsey Taylor walk and a double by Zeringue. Turlich loaded the bases with a single and Brown brought in two runs with a single. Ersy Pacheco then reached on a run-scoring error to make the score 6-3 going into the 7th frame.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Badgers loaded the bases with no outs, but a ground out and two strikeouts resulted in just one run for SHC in the 6-4 final.

Zeringue was 3-for-4 in the loss.

Spring Hill (6-12) will next play on Sunday in the start of the elimination rounds against an opponent yet to be determined.
