KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Spring Hill College women's basketball players Kristi Ybarra and Lynleigh Hughes have been named 2009-10 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.
Ybarra (left), a senior guard from Gulf Shores, Ala., majoring in Actuarial Mathematics, makes her second appearance on the prestigious list. She played in all 29 games with 20 starts this season while averaging 7.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
Hughes (right), a junior forward majoring in Pre-Health, hails from 
Hammond, La. This season she was the only Badger to start all 29 games for Spring Hill and averaged 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Ybarra and Hughes are the 100th and 101st SHC student-athletes to win Scholar Athlete recognition from the NAIA since award was introduced in 1979.
A total of 120 Division I women's basketball players were named 2009-10 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
