Kansas City, MO-The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2009-2010 Men's Division I All-American Teams on Tuesday afternoon. Sylvester Collins was named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention for his efforts in helping the Bulldogs to a 22-9 overall record.
Collins, a 6'9 sophomore center from Madison, MS, finished this season averaging 11.42 points a game, 10.17 rebounds a game, and 3.63 blocks a game. Collins ranks #2 in rebounds in the conference and #5 in the NAIA. In blocks, he ranks #1 in the conference and NAIA. Collins also finished with 10 double doubles on the season. Collins recorded a career high 33 points, 19 rebounds, and 9 blocks this season which led to his being selected to the 2009-2010 GCAC All-Conference team.
Last season, Collins was named GCAC Co-Freshman of the Year along with LSUS's center Derrick Parker, who received GCAC Player of the Year this season along with being selected to the All-American First Team. Collins came to Tougaloo as a freshman from Madison Central High School last season and helped the Bulldogs to a regular season championship and the "Sweet Sixteen" of the national tournament. Collins has definitely made a name for himself in the Bulldogs' basketball program and he looks forward to next season.
