Jackson, Miss.- The #18 LSU Shreveport Pilots swept the Belhaven Blazers in today's double header by final score of 17-3 in five innings and 16-7 at Smith Wills Stadium. The Pilots take the series win, taking three out of four from Belhaven.

GAME 1

LSU Shreveport's offense exploded for 17 runs on 13 hits and committed just one error while Belhaven scored three runs on four hits.

The Pilots got the game off to a good start with five runs in the top of the first inning. Belhaven starter, Ryan Kassab, did not record an out as he walked Brandon Bravata to start the game. Kassab then surrendered a double to Andrew Blubaugh and walked Andrew Brouillette and then Kevin Smith to walk in the game's first run.

Chase Wentz then knocked him out of the game with a two-run double to extend the Pilot's lead to 3-0. The Pilots scored the fourth run of the inning thanks to a sacrifice and an RBI from Curtis Beaudoin. Stephen Hobbins followed later with an RBI-single to right to give the Pilots a 5-0 lead after the top half.

LSU Shreveport scored two runs in the top of the second as Bravata led off the inning with a single to center and then the Belhaven pitcher got two quick outs.

Kevin Smith came to the plate and hit a towering bomb over the right-center field wall way out of the park for a two-run homer to extend the Pilot's lead to 7-0.

The Pilots tacked on three more runs in the top of the third as Shawn Moy led off with a single followed by an RBI-double from Beaudoin. Hobbins hit the one-one pitch over the left field fence for the two-run homer to give the Pilots a 10-0 lead after two and a half.

Belhaven scored one run in the bottom of the third on one hit to trim the Pilot lead to 10-1 after three complete innings of play.

The LSUS offense went back to work in the top of the fourth as they scored two more runs on two hits. Chase Wentz had an RBI-triple followed by an RBI-single from Shawn Moy to put the Pilots up by 11, 12-1 after the top fourth inning.

The Blazers scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning as Derek Tortorich had an RBI-single to trim the Pilot lead to 12-3 after four complete innings of play.

The Pilots answered with five more runs in the top of the fifth as Tyler Alton had an RBI-single and then Moy delivered the knock-out blow with a grand-slam home run over the left field wall to extend the Pilot's lead to 17-3 after four and a half.

Pilot's starter, Jeff Nadeau (1-0), had a great outing in only in his second start of the year as he threw five innings to get the complete game allowing three runs on four hits. He walked only walked one and struck out four to get his first win of the season while Ryan Kassab (5-1) took the loss for Belhaven.

Most of the offense came from the bottom half of the lineup today as Kevin Smith was one for one with 3 RBI's, Chase Wentz was two for three with three RBI's, Shawn Moy was a perfect three for three with five RBI's, Curtis Beaudoin drove in a pair and was one for two, Stephen Hobbins was two out of four with three runs driven in. Andrew Blubaugh was two for four with two runs scored while Brandon Bravata scored two runs as well and was one for one.

GAME 2

The LSU Shreveport answered the call late in the game, scoring 13 runs in the final four innings to topple the Blazers and take the series.

The Pilots took the lead in the top of the third with a two-run double from Andrew Blubaugh. A bobble by the Blazer's right fielder, Paul Moreno, allowed the third run to score and gave the Pilots a 3-0 lead after the inning.

The Pilots got another big blast from their first baseman in the top of the sixth as they scored two runs to take a 5-0 lead. Kevin Smith hit a two-run dinger, a no-doubter that cleared the right field wall half way up the light tower, which was his third of the series and second round tripper of the day and his sixth of the season.

Belhaven scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI-double from Drew Dillard and an RBI-ground out from Lake Eiland to trim the Pilot's lead to 5-2 after six complete innings of play.

The LSU Shreveport offense plated four more runs in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 9-2 lead at the seventh inning stretch. The Pilots got an RBI-walk from Bravata, a two-run single from Brouillette and an RBI-ground out from Kevin Smith.

The Blazers scored three runs in the bottom of the inning after two-run single from Jimmy Gilford in the bottom of the seventh and scored another run on a fielder's choice, to trim the Pilot lead down to four, 9-5.

The Pilots scored seven more runs in the top of the eighth after an RBI-triple from David Morgan who then scored on the bobble by Belhaven's right fielder, Paul Moreno, as the visiting took an 11-5 lead after seven and a half.

Blubaugh got an RBI-single, then an RBI-double by Brouillette. Shawn Moy got an RBI on a hit-by-pitch and later a two-run double from Beaudoin to give the Pilots a 16-5 lead after seven and a half.

The Blazers got the two runs they needed in the bottom of the eighth inning to keep the game going after a two-run homer from Kyle Feazell to trim the Pilot lead back to single digits, 16-7 after eight complete innings of play.

Richard Pharr struck out the side in the ninth to seal the deal for the Pilots.

Jared Mata ((5-2) picked up the win for the Pilots after a stellar six and a third inning performance. He scattered five hits and allowed just three earned runs. Mata picked up his fifth win of the season as he walked only one and struck out two.

Turner Brasher and Cole Newell saw action from the pen as well as Richard Pharr.

Ryan Galloway (1-3) took the loss for Belhaven as he was one of five pitchers that saw action on the mound.

Blubaugh was two for five with three RBIs, Brouillette also drove in three runs and was two for five. Kevin Smith had one hit in four trips and three RBIs while Beaudoin was three for five with two RBIs. Morgan was two for three with one RBI. Bravata and Moy each drove in a run.
