GAME 1
Kevin Smith picked up where he left off, with a three-run homer another no doubter to right field, to give the Pilots an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
The Pilots added one more run in the bottom of the third as Kevin Smith led off the inning with a triple. Curtis Beaudoin drove in the final run of the game for the Pilots as he picked up an RBI on the sacrifice fly to extend the Pilot's lead to 4-0 after three complete innings of play.
Wiley College got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a solo-homer from Juan Soto to trim the LSUS' lead to three, 4-1.
The Wildcats scored one more run in the top of the sixth after an RBI-double from Hector Rivera to pull them within two, 4-2 but it was not enough as the Pilots prevailed in game one by that final score.
Cole Newell (4-1) got the win for the Pilots as he only threw 51 pitches in five innings pitched. He allowed only three hits and one earned run. Newell struck out two batters in his walk-free performance. He retired the first seven batters of the game and retired 15 out of 18 batters faced.
Ismael Marcano (2-1) suffered the loss for Wiley College as he surrendered the three-run homer to Smith in the first inning to give him the loss. He pitched just the first inning as he allowed two hits, three earned runs, walked two and struck out two.
Trevor Stennett pitched a third of an inning before turning it over to the Pilot's closer, Corey Theriot, who slammed the door on the hopes of a Wildcat come back. Theriot allowed no hits and struck out three batters in an inning and two-thirds to earn his fourth save of the year.
Wiley College used the bullpen by committee as they used five different pitchers in the first game today.
Kevin Smith had two of the Pilot's four hits as he finished the game two for three with 3 RBIs.
GAME 2
Wiley College got on the board first with an RBI-single from Bryan Rivera in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead over the Pilots.
The Wildcats added another run in the top of the third with a lead-off solo-homer from Edwin Arocho to go on top 2-0.
The Pilots answered in the bottom of the third with a three-run bomb over the center field fence from Curtis Beaudoin to take a 3-2 lead after three complete innings of play.
Wiley College regained the lead 4-3 in the top of the fourth after a two-run triple from Bryan Rivera.
LSU Shreveport put a pair on in the bottom of the inning as freshman, Matt Bagley, came to the plate. Ahead in the count 2-0, Bagley got a pitch to hit and he sent it to the moon for a three-run shot over the left field wall to put the Pilots back on top for good, 6-4 after four innings.
The Pilots added another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth after Shawn Moy scored on a wild pitch and Stephen Hobbins drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 8-4.
Calen Pennington (1-0) picked up his first win of the season in two innings out of the bullpen. He allowed only one hit, one earned run and struck out three batters.
Lance Nugent got the start for the Pilots and tossed two innings. He allowed three hits, two earned runs, one walk and fanned three.
Jason Mouton threw two innings out of the pen allowing only one hit and struck out one while Richard Pharr pitched the final inning and struck out two to seal the deal for the home team.
Jean Robles (1-1) took the loss for the Wildcats as he gave up the three-run homer to Bagley that proved to be the game winner in the fourth inning.
Matt Bagley was three for three off the bench and drove in three runs while Curtis Beaudoin was one for four with three RBIs.
The Pilots have now won four games in a row and 17 of their last 20 heading into an important three-game series for Easter weekend at Pilot Field.
The next game for the Pilots will be on Friday night as they open a three-game GCAC series with the first place team, William Carey.
The Pilots are two games back of the two first place teams, William Carey and Belhaven, while a sweep by the Pilots would put them in front of WCU in the standings they would still be two games behind Belhaven who are not playing conference games this weekend.
The first game of the series will begin Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Pilot Field while the double header for Saturday is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
