Shreveport, La.-The #18 LSU Shreveport Pilots (28-8, 18-7 GCAC) completed the three-game sweep of the William Carey Crusaders (20-19, 16-9 GCAC) at Pilot Field on Saturday afternoon by a final score in game one 10-0 in six innings and 11-10 come from behind win in 10 innings in game two of the double header.

GAME 1

The game appeared to be a pitcher's duel with a scoreless game going into the bottom of the fourth inning until the Pilots offense erupted for seven runs on seven hits to take a 7-0 lead after four.

Kevin Smith hit another blast over the right field wall to give him 9 homers in the past 10 games. Smith put the Pilots on top 3-0 with his three-run blast. Then the Pilots received back-to-back singles from Shawn Moy and David Morgan when Matt Bagley drove in a pair of runs with a single to left to give the Pilots a 6-0 advantage.

The Pilots got another run in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-0 lead as Tyler Alton scored on a throwing error.

Kevin Smith drove in another run with a sacrifice fly for the seventh run and Curtis Beaudoin won the game with a walk-off single to left field to enforce the 10-run rule.

John James (7-0) pitched his 5th complete game of the season allowing just five hits in six innings pitched to pick up the win. James walked only one and struck out eight.

Scotty Reese (5-4) took the loss for Carey after allowing five earned runs in three and a third innings pitched.

Kevin Smith was one for three with three RBIs while Matt Bagley drove in a pair of runs and was one out of three. Andrew Blubaugh, Ricky Sanders, and Curtis Beaudoin each had one RBI.

GAME 2

The Pilots face plenty of adversity in the final game of the series. They trailed 7-2 after seven and a half innings of play.

The Pilots went to work in the bottom of the eighth to score three runs on three hits as Matt Bagley hit three-run shot to left center to bring the Pilots within two, 7-5 after eight complete.

Carey answered and scored one run in the top of the ninth to get a three-run cushion.

LSU Shreveport got a lead-off triple from Kevin Smith who scored on an RBI single from Curtis Beaudoin. Bagley came up again and made another deposit over the left field wall to tie the game at 8.

William Carey scored two unearned runs in the top of the tenth after an error by the Pilots left fielder David Morgan to give Carey a 10-8 lead going into the bottom of the tenth with the top of the order due up.

Brandon Bravata led-off the inning with a walk and later Andrew Brouillette did the same. A walk to Kevin Smith loaded the bases with one out and Beaudoin tied the game with a two-run single.

After the second out was recorded Tyler Alton drew a walk to bring David Morgan to the plate. Half an inning ago it appeared the Morgan had lost the game but now had a chance to redeem himself; with a 2-2 count Morgan hit a walk-off single to win the game for the Pilots and get the sweep they needed.

Turner Brasher (1-1) earned the win in relief as he was one of seven pitchers used by the Pilots today while Carey countered with four different pitchers. Ian Sharp (1-3) took the loss in the series finale.

The Pilots scored nine runs in their final three at-bats to complete the come from behind win to get their seventh straight victory. LSU Shreveport now moves into second place in the GCAC standing out right.

The next game for the Pilots will be on Tuesday night at Fair Grounds Field in Shreveport versus the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
