NEW ORLEANS, La. - Loyola University New Orleans cross country and
track head coach Andy Canegitta announced the signing of his first 2010
recruit, Danielle Prieto, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Prieto, who was named team captain as a senior, led St. Thomas Aquinas to a 4A District 6 championship as well as runners-up in 4A Region 3. In her junior and senior years, she helped the team qualify for the Florida cross country state championship. Prieto has a personal best in the 5000-meter with a time of 21:04.
"Danielle is a great student-athlete and brings championship experience to our team," said Canegitta. "She will be an immediate impact to our program academically and athletically. She has the potential to exceed her previous accomplishments in high school and help achieve our team goals, which is winning conference."
In high school, Prieto was in the Quill and Scroll Honor Society and was the editor of the school newspaper.
