GAME 1
John James (8-1) picked up his eighth win of the year and his sixth complete game after going the distance in game one of the series. James threw seven solid innings scattering eight hits, allowing one walk and struck out seven to lead the Pilots to their nineteenth GCAC victory of the season.
"John did a great job of battling today. He didn't have his best stuff and struggled there in the fourth but worked his way out of it and dominated the rest of the way," said Head Coach Rocke Musgraves.
James struck out six in the final four innings.
Carl Labit (2-4) took the loss for Loyola in just two thirds of an inning in relief as he allowed four earned runs.
Loyola got the game's first runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run single from Ryan Scott and then an RBI-double from Tyler Duplantis to take a 3-0 lead after four complete innings of play.
The Pilots answered in the top of the fifth with four runs of their own after an RBI-double from Stephen Hobbins and then a sac fly and a RBI from Brandon Bravata. The third run was an RBI-single from Andrew Brouillette to tie the game at three. Chase Wentz drove in the go-ahead run with a single to give the Pilots a 4-3 advantage after four and a half.
LSU Shreveport rallied for three more runs in the top of the sixth after a two-run double from Andrew Brouillette and then Blubaugh scored on a wild pitch to extend the Pilot's lead to 7-3 after five and a half.
The Pilots scored seven runs on nine hits while Loyola scored three runs on eight hits.
Brouillette was three for four with three RBIs while Chase Wentz also had three hits in four trips to the plate and had one RBI. Stephen Hobbins was two for three with one RBI.
GAME 2
The Pilots dominated game two in what appeared at first to be a low-scoring game until the Pilots' offense ignited for their final four at-bats, scoring 23 runs on 14 hits.
Justin Ennis (8-0) got the win for the Pilots after tossing five solid innings surrendering five hits, one earned run, two walks and four strike outs.
"Justin had a great game, he didn't have his overpowering stuff but he can always get outs for us. He is a true pitcher, when he doesn't have his "A Game" he knows how to get outs," said Head Coach Rocke Musgraves.
The Pilots struck first with two runs in the top of the second after Chase Wentz scored on an error from Loyola's left fielder following a single from Curtis Beaudoin. Beaudoin later scored on a double-play ground out to extend the lead to 2-0.
Loyola scored one run in the bottom half of the second after an error by the short stop allowed a runner to get to third on a double-play attempt who scored on a RBI-single from Chris May to trim the LSUS lead to 2-1 after two.
The Wolfpack got another run in the bottom of the third as Slade Sanders scored after an error to tie the game at two after three complete innings of play.
The Pilot's offense erupted for eight runs in the top of the fourth on four hits. David Morgan drove in the first run of the inning with a single to left. Shawn Moy scored after Brandon Bravata's hit-by-pitch.
Andrew Blubaugh then drove in a pair with a double down the left field line. Brouillette added another run for the visitors with a sacrifice fly. Kevin Smith followed with a RBI-double down the right field line to extend the lead to 8-2.
Chase Wentz made it an eight-run lead with a two-run homer over the left field wall to extend the lead to 10-2 after three and a half.
Loyola got a solo-homer from Tyler Duplantis to trim the Pilot lead to seven, 10-3 after four complete innings of play.
Blubaugh drove in a run with a single as Brouillette followed with another sac-fly to center. Kevin Smith hit his 11th home run of the year, a two run shot to extend the lead to 11, 14-3. David Bradley followed with his first homer of the year to up the lead to 15-3 after four and a half innings.
The Pilots got three-run homer from Matt Bagley, his fourth home run of the season, to extend the lead to 18-3 after five and a half.
LSU Shreveport scored eight runs in the top of the seventh on four hits and six hit-batters.
Reliever, Joey Pajaraes (1-3) took the loss for the Wolfpack allowing four earned runs in two innings. Pajares was one of eight pitchers used in game two by Loyola. The home team used 12 pitchers in today's double header.
"This has been a great week for us so far, the guys played great again today and handled the adversity we faced well in both games," said Coach Musgraves.
