Westwego, La.- The #13 LSU Shreveport Pilots (35-9, 21-7 GCAC) defeated the Loyola Wolfpack (14-22, 11-19 GCAC) on Sunday afternoon at Segnette Field by a final score of 9-2 to complete the three-game series sweep.

Jared Mata (6-2) picked up the win for the Pilots after tossing five complete innings allowing seven hits, two runs. He walked two and struck out one as the visiting team turned it over to the bullpen who mowed the rest of the order as they allowed only one hit in the final four innings.

Richard Pharr was the first out of the pen for the Pilots as he threw a scoreless sixth inning in relief striking out one in his hit-less performance.

Ben Suit worked a one-two-three seventh inning as he struck out one and faced the minimum of three batters.

Corey Theriot struck out two of three in his perfect inning in the eighth as his slider kept the home team swinging out of their shoes.

Turner Brasher retired three of the four batters he faced in the ninth to finish off the Wolfpack.

"You can't say enough about the performance we got today from our pitching staff. Mata did a great job and got us five solid innings and our bullpen did a great job as well. It is encouraging for the rest of the season they way are pitchers are throwing and they way we are hitting," said Head Coach Rocke Musgraves.

The Pilots got on the board first with two runs in the first after Kevin's Smith's RBI-double to score Andrew Blubaugh who had singled earlier in the inning. Chase Wentz then drove in Smith with a base-hit to left field on a one-two pitch to give the Pilots an early 2-0 lead.

Shawn Moy walked to lead-off the second inning and Stephen Hobbins drove him in with his fourth home run of the year, this one off the scoreboard in left field to extend the Pilot's lead to 4-0 after an inning and a half.

LSU Shreveport added four runs to the total in the third inning as two walks and a hit-by-pitch led to a RBI-single off the bat of Drew Abernathy and then Shawn Moy hit a two-run single to left to extend the lead to 7-0. Hobbins drove in his third run of the game with a single to left field to open the game to an 8-0 lead after two and a half.

Loyola scored two runs in the fourth with the first run coming in on a balk and the second run via a ground out to trim the Pilot's lead to six, 8-2 after four complete innings of play.

The Pilots scratched another run in the sixth inning as Blubaugh scored on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Smith to extend the lead to seven, 9-2.

Chase Wentz was two for four at the plate with a double and one RBI while Drew Abernathy was one for two with one run batted in and a run scored.

Shawn Moy was two for two with a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored while Stephen Hobbins drove in three runs and was two for three with a home run.

"Our offense did a great job of jumping on them early which pretty much set the tone for the game. Hobbins and Moy swung the bat well today and we look forward for Wednesday," said Coach Musgraves.

The next game for the Pilots will be on Wednesday afternoon with a double header matchup against the Red River Athletic Conference's opponent Northwood University at 2:00 p.m. in Cedar Hill, Texas.

"It should be a good chance for us to see what we will be facing next year in the RRAC. Northwood has a great program and it should be a great mid-week double header," said Coach Musgraves.
