GAME 1
John James (9-1) was on cruise control as he picked up the win for the Pilots as he collected his seventh complete game of the year. He tossed six solid innings today allowing three runs on just four hits and struck out a season high, 11 batters.
"That was a great game for James, he located his pitches well and pitched us to victory," said LSUS head coach, Rocke Musgraves.
Tougaloo's starting pitcher Derrick Singleton (0-3) took the loss for the bulldogs.
The Pilots scored one run in the first as Brandon Bravata scored after advancing to third on a passed ball and then scored on a throwing error by the Tougaloo catcher to give the Pilots an early 1-0 lead.
Tougaloo tied the game in the first as they scored on an error by the Pilots second baseman to even the score at 1.
LSU Shreveport scored six runs in the third as Brandon Bravata scored after a walk to Kevin Smith to put the Pilots back on top, 2-1. Then Chase Wentz hit a grand slam over to center; his third home run of the year gave the Pilots a 6-1 advantage.
The Pilots put eight on the board in the sixth after a two-run single from Kevin Smith and then Chase Wentz drove in a run with a double. David Morgan then hit a three-homer to left field to extend the Pilots lead to 15-1.
David Morgan's sacrifice fly scored the final run of the inning as Curtis Beaudoin came in to score as the Pilots lead 7-1 after two and a half.
Brandon Bravata was hitless at the plate but walked once and was hit twice and was 0-1. He scored three runs.
Andrew Blubaugh was one for three with two runs scored while Kevin Smith went one for two with three RBIs and scored two runs.
Chase Wentz and David Morgan both had a double, a homerun, and four RBIs. Wentz was two for four while Morgan was two for three.
GAME 2
The Pilots scored one run in the first after a RBI-single from Kevin Smith to give LSUS a 1-0 lead until Shawn Moy's solo homer in the second put the visitor's on top 2-0 until the sky opened up and washed away the rest of the day.
The next game for the Pilots will be on the road for a double header against the Texas Wesleyan Rams on Tuesday afternoon. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, Texas.
