The Pilots scored 15 runs on 12 hits while Mobile scored three runs on four hits. Eight of LSUS' 12 hits were for extra bases; four singles, four doubles, one triple, and three home runs.
The Pilots scored early and often and had the game out of reach by the end of the second inning with an 11-0 lead.
Jeff Nadeau (5-0) remains unbeaten on the year after striking out four batters in three innings pitched. "Jeff was throwing the ball well today. He gave up a couple of hits in the third but for the most part dominated their lineup. Since we had the big lead we got him out to get the bullpen some work heading in into the conference tournament," said LSUS head coach Rocke Musgraves.
The Pilots finished the game with four solid innings from the bullpen as Lance Nugent, Calen Pennington, Richard Pharr and Turner Brasher closed out the game on the hill. Nugent, Pennington, and Brasher each struck out one batter.
Kevin Smith got the scoring started for the Pilots in the first with a RBI-single followed by another RBI-single from Chase Wentz. Then John James stepped up to the dish with the bags full of Pilots and hit the 3-2 pitch over the left field wall, a missile that gave James his fourth homer of the year to extend the Pilot's lead to 6-0 after the first.
The second inning started as a mirror image of the first with a one-out double by Andrew Blubaugh, then a walk to Andrew Brouillette. Kevin Smith then doubled home a run while Chase Wentz followed with a two-run triple. Shawn Moy hit his seventh homer of the year, this one a two-run shot over the left field wall to extend the lead to 11-0.
Mobile scored one run in the third as Brad Sheffield got a RBI-triple to right center.
LSU Shreveport scored three in the bottom of the third as Andrew Blubaugh drove in a run with his third double of the game. Kevin Smith then knocked in two with a single to right field.
John James' second homer of the game and fifth of the season came in the fourth that went over the lights and scoreboard to give the Pilot's their 15th run of the game.
Mobile scored two runs in the seventh but it was not enough as the run-rule was enforced.
Andrew Blubaugh will certainly remember his last game at Pilot Field as he finished the day three out of four with three doubles. He drove in one run and scored three times.
Kevin Smith had two singles and one double as he went three for three with four RBIs and two runs scored. Chase Wentz was two for three with three RBIs and two runs scored. He had a single and a three-bagger.
Shawn Moy went one for two with two RBIs, scored two runs, and a two-run homer while John James hit two home runs. James finished two for three with five RBIs and two runs scored.
"This was a great senior class. I hate that they will not be here next year but I look forward to the men they become," said coach Musgraves.
The next game will be on Thursday afternoon in Jackson, Mississippi in the first round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament as Smith Wills Stadium. The Pilots will play either the first or second game of the day and more than likely will face the Mobile Rams (20-32) again. The game time should be announced on Monday.
