NEW ORLEANS -- Xavier University of Louisiana has moved up the starting times of its Saturday home women's volleyball matches to assist with campus preparations for President Obama's visit this weekend.
Athletics Director Dennis Cousin announced the changes Wednesday.
Xavier will play Belhaven at 1 p.m. -- two hours earlier than originally scheduled -- and Alabama State at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Barn. A match between Alabama State and Belhaven will start at 3 p.m.
The Xavier-Belhaven match will be the Gold Nuggets' first since 2004.
The president and members of his Cabinet will visit New Orleans on the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which hit the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29, 2005. The hurricane's damage forced Xavier to suspend intercollegiate athletics for the 2005-06 academic year, and volleyball remained suspended until its return this season.
The president is scheduled to speak at Xavier on Sunday. As a U.S. senator he was the commencement speaker at Xavier in August 2006.
