New Orleans, La. Tougaloo’s Marquis Lowe had a game high 22
points as the Bulldogs defeated Loyola 61-54 in the first round of the
GCAC Tournament at Dent Hall on Dillard’s campus.
Loyola started the second half on a 12-1 run to take a 40-35 lead with
15:22 to play. The Bulldogs scored eight unanswered points,
capped by a three pointer by Lowe to retake a 43-40 lead at the 12:55
mark. Daniel Schmidt answered for the Wolfpack with a three
pointer of his own to tie the score at 43. Loyola scored two
points in the next five minutes, while Tougaloo added 13 to extend
their lead to 56-45 with 5:40 to play.
Lowe was five of nine from the field and four of seven from behind the
arc. He was a perfect eight of eight from the free throw
line. Dennis Holder added 15 points and Jeffery Dixon had 10
points to round out the leaders for Tougaloo (12-18).
For Loyola, James Olivard led with 18 points on seven of 10 shooting
from the field. He grabbed a team high six rebounds. Daniel
Schmidt finished with 15 points. He was six of eight from the
field. Zach Tyson added 10 points for Loyola. The Wolfpack
concluded the season with a record of 11-20.
