Tougaloo, MS-The Tougaloo College Women's Basketball team hosted #15 Xavier University here tonight in the Dawg Pound.  The Lady Bulldogs upset the Gold Nuggets 59-51 and hand them their first conference loss of the season.   The Lady Bulldogs advance to 4-2 GCAC, 9-10 overall.

After dropping a tough conference match-up to Talladega College on last week, the Lady Bulldogs knew it would be tough to upset Xavier University.  The Lady Bulldogs had not beaten the Gold Nuggets since 2005, when they defeated the Gold Nuggets 58-52 on February 3, 2005 here in the Dawg Pound.  With alot on the line, the Lady Bulldogs was seeking revenge from all the past years.  The Gold Nuggets would start off aggressive, but would begin to struggle early in the half and the Lady Bulldogs would capitalize and take an early lead.  The Gold Nuggets would try to fight back, but it would be the Lady Bulldogs that would take the 27-21 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Gold Nuggets would continue to fight their way back in the game, hoping to gain the lead over the Lady Bulldogs.  The Lady Bulldogs, however, worked hard not to let that happen.  The Gold Nuggets would push for a late run, but the Lady Bulldogs would hold off the Gold Nuggets and take the victory and upset the Gold Nuggets to hand them their first conference loss since the 2009-2010 season. 

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Victoria Jones, who finished with 13 points and a game-high 19 rebounds.  Kierra Addison chipped in 11 points and Brittany Patterson and Tangela Rich tacked in 10 points respectively.  The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, January 28, 2012 as they host Edward Waters College of Jacksonville, FL.  Game time is set for 5:00 P.M. here in the Dawg Pound.
