Kinston, NC - No. 2
seed Talladega College overcame 3 errors and 5 walks to beat No. 5 seed Fisher
College 11-9 in first round of the Unaffiliated Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
The Tornadoes (29-19, 9-2
GCAC), advance to play Indiana Southeast semi-finals. Indiana Southeast
beat Edward Waters 8-3 in the night game to advance.
The double elimination
tournament continues through May 4 at Granger Stadium in Kinston, NC with the
winner receiving an automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament.
After a scoreless first
two inning Talladega open the game with 6 runs in the third and fourth
innings. Fisher responded with 3 runs in the fourth inning.
The sixth inning both
teams added a run to make 7-4 in the favor of Talladega. In the eight
inning Fisher put up two runs innings aided 2 errors and 2 walks by Talladega
to the score 7-6.
In the ninth inning
Talladega bats came together for 4 runs to take a commanding 11-6 lead.
Fisher added three runs in the bottom of the once again added by error
and 2 walks by Talladega.
Talladega starter James
Rodriquez picked up the win. Pitching six innings allowing only four runs
off 5 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Talladega finished the
game with 14 hits. Chase Benfield was 2 for 5 with 4 RBI's and George Santiago
4 for 6 with 4 RBI's and Chris Castillo 3 for 5 with 3 runs.
Fisher College ended up with
11 hits with 6 RBI's.
