Tuscaloosa, AL-The Tougaloo College Volleyball Team traveled to Tuscaloosa, AL to play in a two-day tournament at Stillman College.  The Lady Bulldogs would do a complete sweep throughout the tournament, defeating Concordia College Selma 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-14) and Miles College 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-12) on day one and completing the sweep with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17) victory over host Stillman College on day two of the tournament to improve to 3-2 on the season, the best start in school history.

After opening the season with two hard fought losses in Mobile on last Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs were looking to redeem themselves in the two-day tournament hosted by Stillman College.  On the opening day of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs were set to take on Concordia College Selma at 11:00 A.M.  With this being the first meeting of the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Hornets, both teams were looking to go ahead, but it would be the Lady Bulldogs that would breeze past the Lady Hornets in a 3-0 victory over the Lady Hornets.  Dayane Souza led the lady Bulldogs with 9 kills, 4 digs, and 2 service aces.  Marcella Oliveira chipped in 7 kills, Briana Murphy tacked in 6 kills and 2 blocks, and Mariana Candelot added 5 kills, 21 assists, and 5 digs.

In game two of day one, the Lady Bulldogs would play Miles College at 7:00 P.M.  This would also be a first meeting of the two teams.  The Lady Bulldogs would walk all over the Division II Lady Bearcats, as the Lady Bulldogs would defeat the Lady Bearcats 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-12) to go 2-0 in the tourney.  Marcella Oliveira led the Lady Bulldogs with 5 kills and 3 assists.  Briana Murphy chipped in 4 kills and 2 blocks, Mariana Candelot tacked in 14 assists and 3 service aces, and Jana Williams added 3 kills and 6 service aces.

On closing day of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs would take on the host Stillman College Lady Tigers.  The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Tigers met last season at a tri-match at Rust College, where the Lady Tigers defeated the struggling Lady Bulldogs 3-0.  This season, the gears would be switched, as the Lady Bulldogs would rise over the host Lady Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17) to complete the sweep and go 3-0 in the tourney.  The Lady Tigers would give the Lady Bulldogs a fight, as the Lady Tigers would go up 5-0 in set one of the match, but the Lady Bulldogs would regroup and come back to to the set and the match.  Dayana Souza led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 kills, 4 assists, and 7 digs.  Marcella Oliveira chipped in 10 kills and 9 digs and Briana Murphy tacked in 8 kills.

The 3-0 sweep this weekend would put the Lady Bulldogs at a 3-2 record, the best start in school history.  Last season the Lady Bulldogs ended the season with a 7-22 record, only winning two non-conference matches.  The Lady Bulldogs has already surpassed that with this 3-0 sweep this weekend.  The Lady Bulldogs will be tested in their next match, however, as they will take on #12 ranked Spring Hill College Tuesday in Mobile.  Game time is set for 6:00 P.M.
